Subject: Flashing Picture and/or CRT Arcing. Date: January 30, 2002

Symptom:
(2356) The picture may intermittently show a bright flash. The flash is typically a bright white
horizontal bar about an inch wide that may appear anywhere in the picture. Several
such horizontal bars may appear in succession. The flash may be accompanied by
an arcing sound, or an arcing sound may be heard even though no flash is observed.

NOTE: The warranty claim form must include CRT serial
number in addition to the TV serial number. Claims that do
not include both the CRT serial number and the TV serial
number will be rejected.
Refer to the CRT serial number found on the WTDS label on the back of the CRT,
and copy it into the "Explanation of Service Performed" section of the NARDA
Warranty Claim form. Enter the number in this format: "CRT S/N nnnnnnnnnnnn".
Example for label shown below: "CRT S/N 121111145509"

If either of the 2 conditions listed on the previous page are met, turn the set off and
remove the C-board from the CRT, and observe the condition of the RTV that
insulates the CRT pins and also keeps the plastic end cap attached to the neck.

The RTV is OK if it appears as shown in picture # 1 below. The RTV must fill
the gap between the plastic stem-base cap and the end of the CRT neck
(no gaps or bubbles), and it must completely surround the focus pin and must
extend to points A and B as shown in picture #1.

If the RTV looks like that shown in picture # 2, it is insufficient and must
be replaced.
