EchoLife HG520v Home Gateway Quick Start
Free Communication, Wonderful Life Thank you for purchasing the EchoLife HG520v Home Gateway (Hereinafter referred to as the HG520v)! The HG520v is a VDSL2 wireless gateway designed for families and small office and home office (SOHO) users. The HG520v supports wired or wireless Internet access, enabling you to enjoy quality audio, data, and video services at a high speed.

1 Precautions
The HG520v is designed exclusively for indoor use. Pay attention to the following while installing and using the HG520v:

Avoid direct sunlight

Avoid dust

Avoid damp

Use approved power adapter

Disconnect all devices and wires in lightning storm to avoid lightning strike

Keep it away from electromagnetic interference

Use a soft cloth to clean the equipment. Do not use liquid or gas depurative.

Leave more than 10 cm at each side for heat dissipation

Do not disassemble the equipment. Send it to an authorized maintenance point for repair.

Place it on a flat platform. Do not put heavy objects on the equipment.

Note: The shell of the HG520v may be hot after the device is running for a long time. This is normal and you do not have to worry about it.

2 Connecting the HG520v
The following figure shows the connection between the HG520v and other devices.

Power Adapter

Connect the HG520v as follows. To... Do... Connect the VDSL port of the HG520v to the telephone jack on the wall or the modem port of a splitter by using a telephone line. If you connect the VDSL port to the splitter, connect the other two ports of the splitter as follows: Connect the Line port to the phone jack on the wall. Connect the Phone port to a telephone. Connect the LAN ports of the HG520v to other network devices (such as a computer, an STB and a hub) by using network cables. Connect the POWER port of the HG520v to the power adapter. Then plug the power adapter to the socket. Press the power switch on the rear panel of the HG520v.

Note: STB = Set Top Box VDSL = Virtual Digital Subscriber Line

Note: After connecting the HG520v, you need to set the parameters of the HG520v and the computer. Contact your Internet service provider (ISP) for further information.

3 Structure of the HG520v

The HG520v is powered off. An Ethernet link is established. Data is being transmitted through the Ethernet port. No Ethernet link is established. The VDSL2 link is established and activated. The VDSL2 link is not activated. The VDSL2 link is being activated. A link is established and activated in the routing mode, but no data is being transmitted. Data is transmitted in the routing mode. The HG520v is in the bridging mode; or it is in the routing mode with no link established. WLAN module works normally, and no data is transmitted. Data is being transmitted in the WLAN link. The wireless function is disabled, or the WLAN module fails.

The following table describes the ports and buttons on the rear panel: Port/Button VDSL RESET Description It is connected to the telephone jack on the wall or the modem port of a splitter. Press RESET to reset and restart the HG520v. Press and hold RESET for 3 seconds to restore the default settings. Caution: Once you restore the default settings, all custom data will be lost. They are Ethernet ports connecting to other network devices (such as a computer, an STB or a hub). You can establish four Ethernet links at the same time. It is used to power on/off the HG520v. It is a port connecting to the power adapter. It is used to connect the HG520v to WLAN terminals.

4 Troubleshooting
Problem The POWER indicator is off. Solution Ensure that the HG520v is switched on. Ensure that the power adapter is compatible with the HG520v. Ensure that the HG520v is connected to the power supply properly. Ensure that the telephone line is connected to the splitter properly. Ensure that the telephone line works. You can test it with a telephone. Ensure that you are using the splitter provided with the HG520v. Ensure that you are using the network cable provided with the HG520v. Ensure that the network cable is connected properly. Ensure that the indicator of the NIC is on. Ensure that the NIC is running normally. You can check it as follows: Right-click My Computer to select Properties. Select Hardware > Device Manager. Check whether there are devices marked with ? or ! under Network adapters. If there is such a device, delete and re-install it. Alternatively, change the NIC slot or replace the NIC. Ensure that there is no problem as mentioned previously. Ensure that you are using the PVC parameters provided by the ISP. Ensure that the PPPoE dial-up software is installed properly, and the auto dial-up function is set correctly. Ensure that you have entered the correct user name and password. If you cannot access the Internet even if dial-up succeeds, set the IE to deselect Use a proxy server for your LAN (These settings will not apply to dial-up or VPN connections). Stop the dial-up connection and re-dial again 5 minutes later. Try to log on to multiple network stations in case the problem may be caused by the failure of a network station.

5 FAQs
1. How to connect the HG520v to multiple telephones?
As shown in the following figure, you can use junction boxes to connect HG520v to multiple telephones. Remember to use an external splitter to avoid noises during calls.

2. Why does the VDSL connection break frequently?
Various factors can cause the problem, such as access server failure, line failure, and line disturbance. You can check as follows: (1) Make sure the DSL cable is connected properly. (2) The distance between the HG520v and the access server of the ISP is less than 1.2 km.

Keep the HG520v away from appliances with strong electromagnetic fields, such as a microwave oven and a refrigerator. Make sure that no telephone or fax machine is connected directly by the DSL line.

3. How to restore the default settings?
If you cannot access the Internet after changing some settings of the HG520v, you can restore the default settings. To do this, follow these steps: (1) Find the Reset button on the rear panel of the HG520v. (2) Press and hold Reset for 3 seconds.

4. Will the call service and the VDSL access service influence each other?
The HG520v uses the frequency division multiplexing (FDM) technology. Both voice signals and data signals are transmitted through the same telephone line, but never interfere with each other. Therefore, you can make a phone call while accessing the Internet.

5. How to establish the PPPoE dial-up connection in the Windows XP operating system?
PPPoE dial-up software is incorporated in the Windows XP (Professional) operating system. To set up a dial-up connection in Windows XP system, follow these steps. (1) Select Start > All Programs > Accessories > Communications > Network Connections. (2) Click Create a new connection in the displayed page. (3) Click Next in the New Connection Wizard dialog box. (4) Select Connect to the Internet and click Next. (5) Select Set up my connection manually and click Next. (6) Select Connect using a broadband connection that requires a username and password and click Next. (7) Enter the name of the connection you are creating. Then click Next. (8) Select Anyone's use or My use only and click Next. (9) Enter the username and password. Then click Next. (10) Click Finish.

Note: If the built-in PPPoE dial-up function of the HG520v is enabled, you need not establish the PPPoE dial-up connection in your computer.
