1. INTRODUCTION 11AK32 is a 90° chasis capable of driving 20"/21" tubes at appropriate currents. The chasis is capable of working in Pal, Secam and NTSC standards. The sound system is capable of giving 6 watts RMS output into a load of 8 ohms. One page, 8 page SIMPLETEXT, TOPTEXT, FASTTEXT and US Closed Caption is provided. The chasis is equipped with 21 pin Scart connectors. 2. SMALL SIGNAL&CONTROLLER PART WITH TDA935X/6X/8X The TDA935X/6X/8X UOC(Ultimate One Chip) combine all small signal and micro controller functions required for a colour TV receiver. The various versions of theTDA935X/6X/8X series combine the functions of a TV signal processor together with a ”-controller and US Closed Caption decoder. Most versions have a Teletext decoder on board. The Teletext decoder has an internal RAM memory for 1or 10 page text. The ICs have supply voltages of 8 V and 3.3 V and they are mounted in S-DIP envelope with 64 pins. 2.1 Vision IF amplifier The vision IF amplifier can demodulate signals with positive and negative modulation. The PLL demodulator is completely alignment-free. The VCO of the PLL circuit is internal and the frequency is fixed to the required value by using the clock frequency of the ”-controller/Teletext decoder as a reference. The setting of the various frequencies (38, 38.9, 45.75 and 58.75 MHz) can be made via software control. Because of the internal VCO the IF circuit has a high immunity to EMC interferences. 2.2 QSS Sound circuit (QSS versions) The sound IF amplifier is similar to the vision IF amplifier and has an external AGC decoupling capacitor. The single reference QSS mixer is realised by a multiplier. In this multiplier the SIF signal is converted to the intercarrier frequency by mixing it with the regenerated picture carrier from the VCO. The mixer output signal is supplied to the output via a high-pass filter for attenuation of the residual video signals. With this system a high performance hi-fi stereo sound processing can be achieved. The AM sound demodulator is realised by a multiplier. The modulated sound IF signal is multiplied in phase with the limited SIF signal. The demodulator output signal is supplied to the output via a low-pass filter for attenuation of the carrier harmonics. The AM signal is supplied to the output (pin 44) via the volume control. 2.3 FM demodulator and audio amplifier (mono versions) The FM demodulator is realised as narrow-band PLL with external loop filter, which provides the necessary selectivity without using an external band-pass filter. To obtain a good selectivity a linear phase detector and a constant input signal amplitude are required. For this reason the intercarrier signal is internally supplied to the demodulator via a gain controlled amplifier and AGC circuit. The nominal frequency of the demodulator is tuned to the required frequency (4.5/5.5/6.0/6.5 MHz) by means of a calibration circuit which uses the clock frequency of the ”controller/Teletext decoder as a reference. The setting to the wanted frequency is realised by means of the software. It can be read whether the PLL frequency is inside or outside the window and whether the PLL is in lock or not. With this information it is possible to make an automatic search system for the incoming sound frequency. This is realised by means of a software loop which switches the demodulator to the various frequencies and then select the frequency on which a lock condition has been found. The deemphasis output signal amplitude is independent of the TV standard and has the same value for a frequency deviation of ±25 kHz at the 4.5 MHz standard and for a deviation of ±50 Khz for the other standards. When the IF circuit is switched to positive

modulation the internal signal on the deemphasis pin is automatically muted. The audio control circuit contains an audio switch and volume control. In the mono intercarrier sound versions the Automatic Volume Levelling (AVL) function can be activated. The pin to which the external capacitor has to be connected depends on the IC version. For the 90° types the capacitor is connected to the EW output pin (pin 20). When the AVL is active it automatically stabilises the audio output signal to a certain level. 2.4 Video switch The video switch has one input for an external CVBS or Y/C signal. The selected CVBS signal can be supplied to pin 38, the IF video output. The selection between both signals is realised by means of software control. 2.5 Synchronisation circuit The IC contains separator circuits for the horizontal and vertical sync pulses and a data-slicing circuit which extracts the digital teletext data from the analog signal. The horizontal drive signal is obtained from an internal VCO which is running at a frequency of 25 MHz. This oscillator is stabilised to this frequency by using a 12 MHz signal coming from the reference oscillator of the ”-controller/Teletext decoder. The horizontal drive is switched on and off via the soft start/stop procedure. This function is realised by means of variation of the TON of the horizontal drive pulses. The vertical synchronisation is realised by means of a divider circuit. The vertical ramp generator needs an external resistor and capacitor. For the vertical drive a differential output current is available. The outputs must be DC coupled to the vertical output stage. In the types which are intended for 90° picture tubes the following geometry parameters can be adjusted: · Horizontal shift · Vertical amplitude · Vertical slope · S-correction · Vertical shift 2.6 Chroma and luminance processing The chroma band-pass and trap circuits (including the SECAM cloche filter) are realised by means of gyrators and are tuned to the right frequency by comparing the tuning frequency with the reference frequency of the colour decoder. The luminance delay line and the delay cells for the peaking circuit are also realised with gyrators. The circuit contains a black stretcher function which corrects the black level for incoming signals which have a difference between the black level and the blanking level. 2.7 Colour decoder The ICs can decode PAL, NTSC and SECAM signals. The PAL/NTSC decoder does not need external reference crystals but has an internal clock generator which is stabilised to the required frequency by using the 12 MHz clock signal from the reference oscillator of the ”controller/Teletext decoder. The SECAM decoder contains an auto-calibrating PLL demodulator which has two references, the divided 12 MHz reference frequency (obtained from the ”controller) which is used to tune the PLL to the desired free-running frequency and the bandgap reference to obtain the correct absolute value of the output signal. The VCO of the PLL is calibrated during each vertical blanking period, when the IC is in search or SECAM mode. The base-band delay line (TDA 4665 function) is integrated. This delay line is also active during NTSC to obtain a good suppression of cross colour effects. The demodulated colour difference signals are internally supplied to the delay line.

2.8 RGB output circuit and black-current stabilisation In the RGB control circuit the signal is controlled on contrast, brightness and saturation. The ICs have linear input for external RGB signals. The signals for OSD and text are internally supplied to the control circuit. The output signal has an amplitude of about 2 Volts black-to-white at nominal input signals and nominal settings of the various controls. To obtain an accurate biasing of the picture tube the `Continuous Cathode Calibration' system has been included in these ICs. A black level offset can be made with respect to the level, which is generated by the black current stabilization system. In this way different colour temperatures can be obtained for the bright and the dark part of the picture. During switch-off of the TV receiver a fixed beam current is generated by the black current control circuit. This current ensures that the picture tube capacitance is discharged. During the switch-off period the vertical deflection is placed in an overscan position so that the discharge is not visible on the screen. 2.9 ”-Controller ”-Controller part is a 8-bit controller based on 8051 core with embedded teletext, Closed Caption, On screen Display and TV controller functions. ”-Controller has the following features · Display of the program number, channel number, TV Standard, analogue values, sleep timer, parental control and mute is done by OSD · Single LED for standby and on mode indication · System configuration with service mode · 3 level logic output for Secam and Tuner band switching 3. TUNER Either a PLL or a VST tuner is used as a tuner. UV1316 (VHF/UHF) is used as a PLL tuner. For only PALM/N, NTSC M applications UV 1336 is used as the PLL tuner. 4.VIDEO SWITCH TEA6415C In case of multiple external sources are used, the video switch IC TEA6415C is used. The main function of this device is to switch 8 video input sources on the 6 outputs. Each output can be switched on only one of each input. On each input an alignment of the lowest level of the signal is made (bottom of sync. top for CVBS or black level for RGB signals). Each nominal gain between any input and output is 6.5dB.For D2MAC or Chroma signal the alignment is switched off by forcing, with an external resistor bridge, 5VDC on the input. Each input can be used as a normal input or as a MAC or Chroma input (with external resistor bridge). All the switching possibilities are changed through the I2C Bus. It is possible to have the same input connected to several outputs. 5. AM DEMODULATOR TDA9830 The TDA9830 is designed for AM-sound demodulation used in L and L' standard. The IC consists of Sound IF input, IF AGC, AM demodulator and Audio switch circuits. 6. DIGITAL TV SOUND PROCESSOR MSP34X0 The MSP 34x0D is designed to perform demodulation of FM or AM-Mono TV sound. Alternatively, two-carrier FM systems according to the German or Korean terrestrial specs or the satellite specs can be processed with the MSP 34x0D. Digital demodulation and decoding of

NICAM-coded TV stereo sound, is done only by the MSP 3410. The MSP 34x0D offers a powerful feature to calculate the carrier field strength which can be used for automatic standard detection (terrestrial) and search algorithms (satellite). 7. SOUND OUTPUT STAGE TDA2614/TDA2615 TDA2614 is used as the AF output amplifier for mono applications. It is supplied by ±12VDC coming from a separate winding in the SMPS transformer. An output power of 6W (THD=0.5%) can be delivered into an 8ohm load. TDA2615 is used as the AF output amplifier for stereo applications. It is supplied by ±12VDC coming from a separate winding in the SMPS transformer. An output power of 2*6W (THD=0.5%) can be delivered into an 8ohm load. 8. VERTICAL OUTPUT STAGE WITH TDA8357 The TDA8357J is a power amplifier circuit for use in 90° and 110° colour deflection systems for 25 to 200 Hz field frequencies, and for 4 : 3 and 16 : 9 picture tubes. The IC contains a vertical deflection output circuit, operating as a high efficiency class G system. The full bridge output circuit allows DC coupling of the deflection coil in combination with single positive supply voltages. 9. VIDEO OUTPUT AMPLIFIER TDA6107/08Q The TDA6107/08Q consists of three monolithic video output amplifiers. The amplifier can be seen as an operational amplifier with negative feedback. The advantage of negative feedback is that the amplifier characteristics do not play an important role up to certain frequencies. The internal flash diodes protect the amplifiers against flash over in the picture tube. The only protections required at the cathode outputs are a flash resistor and a spark gap. Furthermore, the device needs only one power supply voltage (Vdd). The TDA6107/08Q is provided with a black current data pin. Since TDA935X/6X/8X is used as drive device, no adjustments are required for gain and black setting, as the TDA935X/6X/8X has IČC white point adjustment and black current set-up. 10. POWER SUPPLY (SMPS) The DC voltages required at various parts of the chassis are provided by an SMPS transformer controlled by the IC MC44608 which is designed for driving, controlling and protecting switching transistor of SMPS. The transformer produces 115V for FBT input, ±14V for audio output IC, S+3.3, S+5V and 8V for TDA935X/6X/8X. 11. POWER FACTOR CORRECTION The MC33260 is a controller for Power Factor Correction preconverters meeting international standard requirements in electronic ballast and offline power conversion applications. Designed to drive a free frequency discontinuous mode, it can also be synchronized and in any case, it features very effective protections that ensure a safe and reliable operation. 12. SERIAL ACCESS CMOS 16K EEPROM 24C16 The 24C16 is a 16Kbit electrically erasable programmable memory (EEPROM), organised as 4 blocks of 256*16 bits. The memory is compatible with the IČC standard, two wire serial interface which uses a bi-directional data bus and serial clock. 13. CLASS AB STEREO HEADPHONE DRIVER TDA1308
The TDA1308 is an integrated class AB stereo headphone driver contained in a DIP8 plastic package

LUMINANCE DELAY ADJUSTMENT: Yo = Y-Delay Other In case of other colour systems, enter this system with colour and black-white bar test pattern via RF. Adjust Y-Delay Other till the colour transients on the colour bar of the pattern become as sharper and colours between transients do not mix with each other as possible. Normally for an equal delay of the luminance and chrominance signal the delay must be set at a value of 160nS. This means the adjustment must be set to 8. Yp = Y-Delay PAL Enter a PAL B/G colour and black-white bar test pattern via RF. Adjust Y-Delay PAL till the colour transients on the colour bar of the pattern become as sharper and colours between transients do not mix with each other as possible. Yn = Y-Delay NTSC Enter an NTSC colour and black-white bar test pattern via RF. Adjust Y-Delay NTSC till the colour transients on the colour bar of the pattern become as sharper and colours between transients do not mix with each other as possible. Ys = Y-Delay SECAM Enter a SECAM B/G colour and black-white bar test pattern via RF. Adjust Y-Delay SECAM till the colour transients on the colour bar of the pattern become as sharper and colours between transients do not mix with each other as possible.

Note:

For an equal delay of the luminance and chrominance signal the delay must be set at a value of 160 ns. This is only valid for a CVBS signal without group delay distortions. Setting Y-delay value to 8 gives 160 ns delay WHITE BALANCE ADJUSTMENT: The following three parameters are used to make white balance adjustment. To do this, use a Colour Analyser. S-CORRECTION ADJUSTMENT: SC = 4:3 S-Correction Enter a CROSS-HATCH B/G test pattern via RF. Change S-correction till the size of squares on both the upper and lower part of test pattern become equal to the squares laying on the vertical centre of the test pattern. Check and readjust S-Correction item if the adjustment becomes improper after some other geometric adjustments are done.

VERTICAL SHIFT ADJUSTMENT: VSH= 4: 3 Vertical Shift Enter a PAL B/G test pattern via RF. Change Vertical Shift till the test pattern is vertically centred, i.e. horizontal line at the centre pattern is in equal distance both to upper and lower side of the picture tube. Check and readjust Vertical Shift item if the adjustment becomes improper after some other geometric adjustments are done. Vg2 ADJUSTMENT VSD = Vertical scan disable When active, pressing left or right button turns off vertical scan signal so that Vg2 (screen) alignment can be done. Disable this function by pressing left or right button before proceeding to other adjustments. Another way to activate this function any time is to press YELLOW remote key in service mode. Press YELLOW button again to deactivate VSD function. 4:3 VERTICAL AMPLITUDE ADJUSTMENT: VA4 = 4:3 Vertical Amplitude Enter a PAL B/G test pattern via RF. Change vertical amplitude till horizontal black lines on both the upper and lower part of the test pattern become very close to the upper and lower horizontal sides of picture tube and nearly about to disappear. Check and readjust VERTICAL AMPLITUDE item if the adjustment becomes improper after some other geometric adjustments are done. VERTICAL SLOPE ADJUSTMENT: VS= 4:3 Vertical Slope Enter a PAL B/G test pattern via RF. When VS is active, bottom half of the picture tube will be blanked. Change vertical slope till the half of the pattern become equal to the intersection of the blanked side. Check and readjust VERTICAL SLOPE item if the adjustment becomes improper after some other geometric adjustments are done. BLE Black level offset adjustment. 8=No offset.

HBO Horizontal bow adjustment. 32=No Correction. HPA Horizontal parallelogram adjustment. 32=No Correction. HORIZONTAL SHIFT ADJUSTMENT: HSH= 4:3 Horizontal Shift Enter a PAL B/G test pattern via RF. Change horizontal shift till the picture is horizontally centred. Check whether this adjustment is correct after completing Service Mode Adjustment. AGC ADJUSTMENT: AG = AGC adjustment. Apply a 1mVrms RF signal to the aerial input of the tuner. Increase/Decrease by the arrow keys the take over setting such that the voltage at the tuner output pin 27 drops 1V below its maximum voltage. IFL1 IF for SECAM-L1 selection. (33.40 or 33.90 MHz)

GEOMETRY ADJUSTMENTS PROCEDURE: Tv geometry adjustments should be done with the following order. 1-) VSD =Vertical Scan Disable (Screen Adjustment) 2-) HSH = Horizontal Shift 3-) VS = 4:3 Vertical Slope 4-) VSH = Vertical Shift 5-) VA4 = 4:3 Vertical Amplitude 6-) SC = 4:3 S-Correction 7-) VA16 = 16:9 Vetical Amplitude
